UVRI -Clinical Research Program Initiative formerly UVRI-IAVI HIV Vaccine Initiative started Implementing the HPTN 084 study (A Phase 3 Double Blind Safety and Efficacy Study of Long-Acting Injectable Cabotegravir Compared to Daily Oral TDF/FTC for Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis in HIV-Uninfected Women) in July 20217.
The first study participant was enrolled Nov 20218 and last participant exited Aug 2025.
During the 7 years of study duration, the study team gained great experience through implementing such a noble PrEP study that has led to licensure of CABLA PrEP in most countries.
This opened other opportunities for the site to be selected to implement other PrEP clinical trials like the PURPOSE 1 and EXPrESSIVE -10 clinical phase 3 clinical trials.
